I identify my work within Afro-Modernism. It is to grieve the elysian pre-modern imagined Africa, and to accept and attempt to understand what Africa has become. Islam is very important to the history of the continent, and with it, the Arabic language. My work explores this intersection, projecting images from an infinite Afro-Arab landscape. My work shows that the boundary between the two is fluid. Pan-Arabism is a product of Modernism. It is a reaction, like Pan-Africanism, and while the West has "moved-on," we grapple with it still in preserving our sense of self under Western hedgemony.
