Kim Swift
Origin: Galveston, TX, USA
Birth Year: 1982
Kim Swift’s participatory objects and environments explore our connections to one another and to the world around us. Challenging the rules embedded within most of the products and places that shape our daily lives, Swift advocates for design that transcends the limitations of functionalism, inspires the imagination, and proposes alternative ways of being. The scenes she constructs might include an object that can turn a consumer into a producer, or a spectacle that makes an audience into the citizenry of a temporary civilization. Swift’s work looks at interaction and choice, and responds to the condition of estrangement as a starting point to define new permissions, embrace and unpredictable behaviors, and foster meaningful engagement.
