Katie Mongoven

Origin: Jiangxi, China; Washington, DC, USA
Birth Year: 1995

Katie Mongoven is a Chinese-American fiber artist based in metro Detroit, MI. Rooted in fiber processes, her work utilizes materials significant to her homeland, the Jiangxi province, and her first home, Washington, DC, to question the value of a home and the cost of a homeland. The answers, like her identity, exist in perpetual fluidity and cannot be understood, only felt. Instead, she explores this space, seeking and sensing what it feels to be a Chinese-American immigrant, not first generation and not a third culture kid, but someone swept into the in-between.
